What is Open
House Ministries?

Open House Ministries is a faith-based collaboration of:

  • Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida,
  • CBF Global Missions of Atlanta, Georgia,
  • and partner churches, organizations and individuals.

We strive to demonstrate God’s love in real and concrete ways in the Homestead/Florida City area.

Why are we in Homestead?

Open House Ministries began as disaster relief following Hurricane Andrew in 1992.  Homestead and Florida City were almost completely destroyed.  While 18 years have passed, our community still struggles.

  • 43% of our children under 18 years of age are living below the poverty level.
  • Our high school graduation rate hovers around 50%.
  • Our community is very diverse, yet largely segregated.  OHM is “common ground” for all.

What are we doing?

Open House Ministries embraces all opportunities to promote Kingdom values and goals in this community.  We do this by caring for the physical needs, such as emergency food and clothing, as well as spiritual needs through bible study and worship opportunities.  Our greatest ministry emphasis has been on the children and youth programs, with approximately 100 children and youth participating in our programs every week.  As a result, we are seeing leaders emerge from the youth program who will impact the Homestead/Florida City community for Christ.
